Proposal

Haunting verses angelic

My proposal is to record and experiment with medium format film camera and digital camera and compare the process.

Landscapes/environment photography with human element to depict haunting and angelic theme. 

Concept / Theme

Comparing the process of black and white film And digital photography

•       I want to explore a contrasting theme of Haunting and Angelic themed images with various environments, from Studio Through to Natural lighting, with portrait photography. 

•       I want to experiment with shutter speeds and exposure settings, to give the images a contrasting emotional impact.

•       Compare traditional film and digital photography and document the process

Artist influences

irina dzhul

Irina is a Ukraine photographer, I struggled to find much out about her.  She is environmentally aware of her surroundings and looks into the history.

Her composition and her subjects compliment one another. 

Roger Ballen

Rodger is a classed as being the most influential photographic artist of the 21^st century. (So his website proclaims)  His photographs span over forty years.  His work his strange and confronts the viewer.  His work has a dark undertone, haunting theme.  Why I chose Rodger was he was the photographer for Die Antwoord behind the scenes.  I especially like the image of yolandi in the dark winged outfit.  This image was taken from the music video  “I Fink U Freeky” .  I think Rodger has a very warped mind, but he executes his photography well.  (lighting and composition.) 

Research

•      Experiment with different shutter speeds to get the best result

•      Person stationary in the water and also another scene movement of the model

•      Get the correct reflection, try with and without filters

•      Double exposing in camera and in the darkroom

I will get the exposure correct with the digital camera, light metering and use these settings to emulate the image through the film camera.

I will do a practice run in the dark room, find models female and male.  I have a few props and clothes. 

Once I come up with the full concept and story board, then I will know exactly what I need as in clothing props and locations.

Outcome:   body of work

final body of work, output will be a printed 8.5x11” (22x28cm) magazine in portrait orientation and A1 print
